For the beginner snowboarder there are certain aspects to the snowboard they use that will either make the first few tentative steps easy or very difficult. It could mean the difference between walking away from the sport forever or becoming a lifelong devotee.

So the idea is to find out before you hit the slopes exactly what sort of snowboard you need if you are a beginner. There are snowboards in every snowboard company’s line up that caters for the first-timer. It’s just a case of knowing what it is you need.

The largest snowboard company in the world is Burton Snowboards and they have a board for every standard of riding ability. One of the boards that is made especially for the beginner is the Burton Cruzer, a freeride snowboard that has been designed so that there is less likelihood of catching an edge on the snow which could leave you face down in the pack.

There are other boards that have also been indicated that a beginner could comfortably use as well such as the Lamar Intrigue. What the beginner is looking for is a board that has a medium to soft flex which makes it more forgiving if you make a mistake. You also need a board with edges that aren’t inclined to catch sharply in the snow. The inexperienced rider will not yet know how to deal with this type of eventuality.

Also, take note of the designation given to the board. They may be all mountain boards, freestyle boards or freeride boards. The beginner is generally going to want to use a freeride board.
